You don’t need to go outside to find nature. “Nature isn’t outside of you. It’s within you.” Earth, water, fire, air, and ether aren’t just what make up the world around you, they make up the world inside you too. You are, quite literally, part earth, part water, part fire, part air, part space.

Most days you move through all five elements without noticing. You’re grounded enough to stand, fluid enough to bend, fired up enough to get through your to-do list, breathing without thinking about it, and somehow still finding a little room in your head to think. But when one of these elements runs low, you feel it before you can name it. Restless and scattered. Stiff and rigid. Flat and unmotivated. Short of breath, short of patience. Adi Amar’s 5 Elements Flow moves through each one in turn, giving you a way to meet whichever part of yourself is asking for attention.

Grounding with Earth

Everything starts with a foundation. This class works through standing postures, hip openers, and poses for your knees and ankles, clearing the pathways through your lower body before closing with an earth-activating mudra. The earth element is what connects you to stability and safety: the sense that you’re supported, literally and otherwise. When you’re feeling unmoored, this is where you begin.

Fluidity with Water

Where earth holds still, water moves. This class works with adaptability and flexibility, loosening what’s gone stiff and reminding your body it’s allowed to change shape. Water governs how well you flow with what’s in front of you instead of fighting it: the parts of you that can bend without breaking. If you’ve been feeling rigid, inside or out, this is the element that softens that back open.

Strength with Fire

Fire is the element of transformation, and this class asks the most of you physically: energizing, core-activating, and hip-opening, built around poses meant to build energy, vitality, and strength. The “flame of life” is what gives you the courage to change, and that courage has to be built, not just felt. When you’re stuck or unmotivated, this is the class that gets the engine running again.

Breath with Air

Air lives in your breath, and this class slows all the way down to meet it. A restorative practice that opens the heart and shoulders, it gives you deeper access to your breath and bookends the class with a pranayama that asks you to connect to whatever you find most sacred. Where fire pushes, air lets you soften and receive. This is the element to reach for when you need to stop pushing and just breathe.

Space with Ether

Ether is the quietest of the five, and the hardest to notice until it’s missing. This class moves slowly and mindfully through accessible variations of headstand and shoulder stand, no need to go fully upside down, holding each pose long enough to feel the boundlessness Adi describes. It closes with a meditation built to help you release limiting beliefs and whatever you’ve been holding onto that no longer serves you. This is the element of spaciousness, the room you make once everything else has settled.

Which element are you missing?

You don't need to move through all five elements every time you're on the mat. Let whatever's actually missing guide you there instead. Some days call for Earth, when everything feels unsteady and you need ground beneath you again. Other days ask for Water, when your body's gone rigid and could use permission to move differently. There are days built for Fire, when motivation has disappeared and something needs to light back up. Air matters most when your breath feels shallow and quick. And every so often, what you're really after is Ether: room to think, space where your mind isn't so crowded.

You are the microcosm of the macrocosm: everything nature holds, you hold too. This series is simply a way of remembering that, one element at a time.
