Just as it may of taken you a minute to find the right style of yoga or your favorite teacher, you may still be navigating the best way to nourish and cleanse your body. Of course diets are not really a solution; they have left us crashing and burning for years. With healthy food options popping up all over the country and fresh farm-to-table goods available at your fingertips, it is time to narrow in on the best ways to detox for your best summer self yet! Here are my four tips for finding a little more balance during the summer season.

1. Alkalize Your Diet

Dinners at Il Bucco, multiple coffees from Starbucks, late nights out and midnight pizza runs will leave you with an acidic gut. This is the cause of inflammation, weight gain, fatigue, headaches, bloating, insomnia, illness and more. Our bodies are meant to be balanced – think of a PH scale. Neutral to more alkaline on the scale leads to better health and overall energy. To do achieve this, feed your body leafy greens, veggies fresh from the farmers market and plant based protein.

2. Change up Breakfast

Breakfast is the one meal that many of us completely skip or overfill on. It is important to start the morning on the healthiest foot to set the tone of the day. Our body has rested and processed all that we took in the day before so it is best to wake up supporting detoxification and preparing to intake nutrient-dense foods. Start with a large glass of water with lemon to help flush out toxins and then make a nutrient-dense smoothie to help you feel your best. My energizing morning smoothie includes: 2 frozen banana's, 1 cup almond milk, 2 tablespoons sunflower seed butter, 2 medjool dates, 1 teaspoon maca powder, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Blend to desired consistency and enjoy!

3. Add an Adaptogen

These herbal supplements can be game-changers to your health; they are nature's anti-stress fixers and help regulate the body. There are now fabulous bottled adaptogen potions you can add to juice, tea, water and smoothies. My go to's: Sun Potion's He Shou Wu for healthy hair, skin and nails and to balance the nervous system. I also like Moon Juice's Action Dust to help boost my energy before workouts, relieve stress, and to promote my thyroid health.

4. Remember Self-Care

No matter how well you eat, self-care can make or break your detox goals. Self-care is time you set aside for you, where you can let go of your mind and endless to do lists and just care for your body and soul. One option of course is to make time to get on your yoga mat to stretch, flow and breathe. I also love creating rituals like evening epsom salt baths, journaling, and meditation to de-stress.
