Low Lunge • Anjaneyasana

Step-By-Step:

STEP 1 - Begin in downward-facing dog. Exhale and draw your right leg between your hands. Place your right foot on the floor with the knee aligned directly over the ankle.

STEP 2 - Lower your left (back) leg to the earth. Left toes can be turned under. Bring both hands onto your right thigh and root down into the earth. Raise your torso and arms from here and draw the belly away from the right thigh.

STEP 3 - With your next inhale, draw the lower belly back and up and reach your arms up to the sky. Rotate your upper arm bones inward as you draw the belly toward the crown of your head. Root your tail bone towards the earth and rise. Gaze is up but not reaching.

Thighs, Groin, Abdomen, Chest, Lungs, Shoulders, Armpits, Neck

Therapeutic Focus:

Opens hip flexors.

Props & Modifications:

Place a blanket under the bent knee. Bring hands to low back or hips for support or extend arms up towards the sky and bring palms together.
