Vegan Golden Delight: Turmeric Smoothie (Latte!) Recipe

YogaToday recently caught up with Kjersti Buaas and Chanelle Sladics, professional snowboarders, yoginis, and co-founders of PRSNT, outdoor retreats designed to accelerate personal growth in fun group settings. With PRSNT retreats, all adventure activities are connected to nature-based sports. Each camp focuses on striking a balance between yin and yang activities and many camps incorporate nutrition workshops.

Mindful eating plays a big role for Kjersti and Chanelle. Smoothies, in particular, are one of their favorite ways to fuel up. With cold weather coming, we asked Kjersti and Chanelle for their go-to recipe of choice, and they have just the thing – a satisfying smoothie that packs a nutritional punch with ingredients like: turmeric which inherits powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-fungal & anti-bacterial agents; and piperine, that is present in black pepper and helps the body absorb the turmeric. Healthy fats like cashew nuts or coconut oil are included which makes the turmeric more bio-available.

Kjersti says, “Last season I faced a swollen elbow after taking a crash on the mountain. I had an upcoming big event and was worried I could not compete. I got advised to take turmeric and black pepper. (I used a tincture mixed with a little alcohol as I needed a quick response) and after only two days my swell-bow was gone and I was able to compete.”

Here’s a delicious (and nutritious) smoothie (latte) recipe! 

Pour in a Simply Straws A-Mason Pint and decorate with cinnamon on top for the "latte effect”.

VEGAN GOLDEN DELIGHT: TURMERIC LATTE

Serves 1-2

INGREDIENTS

1 Cup of soaked Cashews [raw, organic, unsalted]

3 Dates [Organic Deglet Noor - Premium Pitted & Sun Ripened]

1 Ts Organic Turmeric Powder [Can also use the Root]

A Pinch of Cinnamon

1 Cup of Water

6 Ice Cubes

A Pinch of Black Pepper (Black pepper enhances bioavailability of Turmeric)

DIRECTIONS

Pre-soak the cashews for 1-2 hours. Remember to have ice cubes ready in the fridge as they will give the milk a cool and foamy texture. Use a high speed blender like the Nutri Bullet and mix together until texture is smooth and silky. 


Take it with you to go, look good, feel good and save tons of money on take out coffee or drinks!
