Hydrating Smoothie Recipe for Hot Summer Mornings

by Hannah Aylward

Let’s face it, it is hot out there. The peak of summer has hit, and the heat is on full force. I feel like I can’t eat anything other than smoothies and salads. It is just too hot to turn on the oven!

As we know, proper hydration is so important for digestion, skin health, and detoxification. One of my biggest hydration hacks is to eat your water! There are so many beautiful, nourishing fruits and veggies that are filled with water, especially greens. While it is important to drink enough water, you can also boost hydration levels with the right kind of food.

So here is one of my go-to smoothies when these steamy summer mornings hit. After a long walk in the sun and a super sweaty yoga class, nothing hits the spot more than this refreshing drink. This smoothie is easy to digest, hydrating, delicious, and packed with all the essentials for a blood-sugar stabilizing and satiating meal with protein + fiber + greens + healthy fats.

Protein - plant-based protein powder

Fiber - chia seeds

Greens - spinach + cucumber

Healthy fats - avocado + chia seeds

Flavor add-ins - pineapple, lemon, lime

Steamy Summer Morning Smoothie

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • ½ cucumber
  • ¼ avocado
  • ¼ c pineapple
  • Large handful spinach
  • 1 Tablespoon chia seeds
  • Juice of ½ lemon and/or juice ½ lime (I like both!)
  • 1 scoop vanilla plant-based protein powder
  • 2 cups unsweetened nut milk
  • Handful of ice

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 45-60 seconds or until well blended.

Feel free to make adjustments. Mint, cilantro, ginger, and mango all make amazing additions to this smoothie. Go with your gut and throw in whatever you feel like that morning.

Try it out and let us know what you think! How do you stay cool on these warm summer days?
