CBD oil is the new collagen, making it an ingredient in every latest wellness product. Brands across the globe are adding CBD-infused goodies to their product lineup. It’s gaining big momentum in the health and wellness world, with some scientific studies confirming it may help treat a variety of ailments like chronic pain and anxiety.

Let’s set this straight now: cannabidiol (CBD) oil is not marijuana. So what is it, and should we be adding it to our wellness routine?

Differentiating the Two

Marijuana contains both THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD. THC is the chemical that provides that mind-altering high when broken down by heat and consumed by the body, whether that is through smoking the plant or cooking it into foods. CBD, however, is not psychoactive. It does not change the state of mind of the person who uses it. It does appear to produce significant changes in the body, making it a recent interest of medical practitioners. Cannabidiol is becoming a popular natural remedy used for many common ailments.

CBD oil is extracted from the resin glands on cannabis buds and flowers. It can also be extracted from hemp, which is an industrial form of cannabis that has small buds and a THC concentration of 0.3% or less. It is then usually diluted with a carrier oil like hemp seed oil.

CBD Oil benefits include:

-Chronic pain relief

-Decreased anxiety and depression

-Reduced inflammation

-Stress reduction

-Weight management

-Improved heart health

-Improved acne

-Pain management

-Neurological protection

-Cancer protection

-Nausea relief

According to Laura Lagano, integrative cannabis nutritionist, co-founder of the Holistic Cannabis Academy and author of The CBD Oil Miracle, health conditions where CBD has great results include acne, attention deficit hyperactive disorder, autism, seizures, fibromyalgia, IBS and IBD, menopause, migraines, multiple sclerosis, nausea, premenstrual syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, and more.

CBD oil can now be found in different products like drops, capsules, syrups, teas, lotions and creams. The FDA has not approved any CBD products for any purpose yet, so their production, labeling, and distribution aren’t subject to federal regulation.

So is CBD legal? If we’re talking about hemp-derived CBD, then the answer is yes. Because CBD from hemp has no psychoactive effects, the purchase, sales, or possession of hemp CBD products are completely legal in all 50 States.

Marijuana-derived CBD products, on the other hand, don’t enjoy the same luxuries. Because it has been derived from THC-rich marijuana, marijuana-derived CBD, even its isolated from, is considered as a byproduct of marijuana and is judged accordingly. In some states, marijuana-derived CBD is completely legal, while in others, it is completely illegal, but in most states, its a bit of a mixed bag, each state having CBD-specific laws.

Should You Use It?

If you suffer from any ailments listed above, CBD oil may be worth a try! There is a lot of science behind it, and has been for years. CBD is tolerated well by most, however everyone reacts to it a little differently. Some possible negative side effects include:

-Anxiety and depression

-Dry mouth

-Changes in liver function

Fortunately, it can be very easily added to your daily routine. You can add it to your morning coffee or tea, put some in your Morning Power Smoothie, throw it in some hot chocolate, or simply using sublingually by placing a few drops right under your tongue.

Before you start using CBD oil, make sure you can get it legally, and discuss it with your doctor to ensure your safety and avoid potential interactions with current medications.
